Active Alpine and Mountain Adventure holidays in Austria
Aside from Golf, Austria offers a wealth of summer activities from the more relaxing (gentle river walks, horse-riding, tennis) to the more adventurous (canyoning, climbing, high altitude trekking).
Mountain biking is very popular with some great single track trails on offer around Kitzbuhel and Saalbach-Leogang close to Zell am See. Some of the ski lifts operate in the summer for the benefit of walkers and bikers and this certainly takes the uplift effort out of the equation and allows you to concentrate on the downhill fun!
The Kitzsteinhorn glacier at Kaprun is open in the summer offering skiing high up at around 3,000 metres and equipment can be hired in Kaprun.

There are countless walking and hiking trails both in the valleys and higher up on the mountains – some of the ski lifts operate through the summer months so you can enjoy the mountain views without the uphill strain and mountain huts serve traditional food and refreshments.
From canyoning to via ferrata (bolted climbing known as ‘Klettersteig’ in Austria) to hot air ballooning, there are almost too many activities to list.
We have put together a number of useful activity links and please get in touch if you require any further information at all.
Based in Fieberbrunn, Pillerseetal, Marcus and Rich have been running summer adventure activities since 1997. Both highly qualified, they offer rafting, canyoning, high ropes courses, mountain biking, climbing for all levels, via ferrata, hiking and paragliding.
Based in Kitzbuhel, Element3 is a specialist ski school in Winter and offers mountain biking, hiking, climbing, canyoning and rafting in the summer.
Bike Academy is a specialist mountain bike tour and course organiser based in Kirchberg, next door to Kitzbuhel. They offer technical improvement and coaching courses for all levels from beginner to expert as well as guided mountain bike tours around the area and further afield. High quality bikes are available to rent.
Based in Kitzbuhel and running mountain bike tours for over ten years, Rob Pearce knows the Kitzbuhel bike trails intimately. Mountain edge offers bike hire and mountain bike guiding.
Offering back-door ski access to Saalbach in the winter, Leogang (around 30 minutes from Zell am See) is a dedicated mountain bike hotspot in the summer offering superb single track and a ‘north shore’ bike park with some seriously big kickers. Saalbach too is catching up on the mountain bike scene and opens new lift-accessible single track trails every summer.
